Acorn Cottage Press provides authentic and empowering disability representation in picture books and toys. My Body Beeps! Growing Up With Diabetes is a picture book geared towards children ages 4-8 with a paired handcrafted linen doll of the main character Katie with matching sensor and insulin pump.

My Body Beeps just finished the proofreading editing stage and the final edits are in the hands of the book designer. I am in contact with a printer and will be submitting the files in the next few days to them for both My Body Beeps! + OUCH! to get a sample of each made.

I did the OUCH! OOPS! OH NO! campaign on Kickstarter last fall and while Evgeniya is hard at work at creating the illustrations, a set of three books is ALOT of work and with her hand drawn illustrations, takes ALOT of time. I'm not sure how long it will take her to complete OOPS! + OH NO! and don't want too much time to go by without fulfillment for all my wonderful supporters - so I am going to research having just the OUCH! book printed now as it is ready to go and then follow up later with OH NO! + OOPS! once they are complete.

I am currently taking a class to make Acorn Cottage Press the best it can be and as apart of that created a survey to ask Teachers, Classroom Specialists, Administrators, + Librarians. If you fit into those categories or know people that do and can take 5 minutes to fill out my survey, It would be a great help!

Surveys Are Live!

I have sent out the surveys to everyone. In the survey, there are a few pledge questions, options for add ons if you would like to add on a doll, extra books or donate to others, and a place to put in your mailing address. In the add on section you can also get my other books: Everyone's Invited! which is about inclusion and OUCH! about building self advocacy skills in a bullying situation.

I will be having a launch party on Cape Cod when everything is ready and would love to celebrate with you if you are in the area. If you intend on attending the launch party, please select "local pick up" so that you don't get charged for shipping. You can select "local pick up" under the countries - which is a odd spot and reach out to me if you need any help (I can change it from the backend if needed) via IG @acorn_cottage_press or email [email protected].

I will be keeping everyone updated - the final proofreading is happening with the editor and the book designer is working on the design but everything is so close to being completed, so wild! After that, I can upload the Ebook file to send out to everyone as well as make that available on Amazon. 

I am planning on putting My Body Beeps! on Amazon as a 8.5x8.5 softcover but would love to also do a higher quality offset print run but currently trying to see how we could afford the cost of the offset printing which would run me approx +$6,000 but would then also give me the ability to donate ALOT of books to families with disabilities and the non profits that serve them. If I am able to do an offset run, to print and ship them to me would take approx 3 months.

How Much Does My Body Beeps! Cost?!?

The total cost of creation with me working 24/7 for free is $6250 including illustration, editing, book design and a small custom order of "Katie" + "Josh" Linen Dolls. To do an offset print run the total goes up to $12,482 which would give me the ability to DONATE 1000 books to families with diabetes either directly or through the nonprofits that serve them. We aren't to that point yet but if you are connected to people/organizations that could help make that happen, please let them know about this project. I will be working on creating a pre-order store in case anyone who missed the campaign wants to preorder and on the survey for all of my wonderful backers so I know where to send your rewards. I will be in touch soon with updates and expect to be able to send you the completed ebook in the next couple of weeks.

It's the last 24 HOURS for My Body Beeps!

This is the last chance to preorder My Body Beeps! and get a Katie or Josh or Special Custom Linen dolls before the campaign ends tomorrow! We currently have 92 backers and I think we can get to 100 backers before tomorrow. Can you help us get to 100 backers? Share out and support if you can!



Sharing out the last two spreads in the book, one page will go over the different types of diabetes to help educate others and the other provides discussion questions to help support families in discussing the book with their children to assist them in processing their feelings while gaining independence to help take care of their diabetes. Any feedback on these pages is appreciated!

Thank you all so much for your support in making My Body Beeps come to life. I have a meeting with Arlene Soto, the fabulous Book Designer this morning to discuss the design and will be able to set up the files shortly after a proofreading edit by two wonderful editors Val and Stacey Gittens to make sure everything looks just right. 

I am so excited to be able to soon get My Body Beeps into all of your hands as well as to be able to donate copies to families with diabetes. I put out a small post on a parent group for Type 1 about contacting me if they would like a copy but can't afford it and already had a family reach out to me.
